Bud & Me is an incredible story of the adventures of two young boys on horseback in the early 1900's. If it weren't for the newspaper clippings and photos, you would have to question whether the stories were actually true.

The boy's first amazing ride occurred n 1909, when 5-year-old Temple Abernathy and his 9-year-old brother, Bud, rode from Frederick, Oklahoma to Santa Fe, New Mexico - ALONE!

As I read, I wondered who in their right mind would allow two boys so young to ride so far alone. Their mother had died when the boys were young and their father was Jack Abernathy, famous for catching wolves alive with his bare hands!

Temple was so small that he couldn't mount his half-Shetland, Geronimo, without climbing onto a porch or fencepost first. He dismounted by sliding down the pony's left front leg.

The following summer, 1910, Bud and Temple rode 2,000 miles from their home in Oklahoma to New York City.

In their last adventure on horseback, the boys rode from New York City to San Francisco on horseback in 1911, trying to make it in 60 days or less in order to win a ,000 prize. Bud was 11 and Temple, 7.

The book covers the details of the three horseback adventures as well as the boys driving an early model car and motorcycle, as well as a shorter trip on donkey and elephant.

The following picture shows Bud and Temple on their first ride to Sante Fe, New Mexico.
