Stillwater Stables, a nonprofit organization in Wilmington, Ohio provides English riding lessons to children ages 6-17. Stillwater Stables is dedicated to giving every child the chance to experience the magic of working with horses. Learning skills in horsemanship and riding, all children and teens will be given the opportunity to build relationships, gain confidence and experience healing. Stillwater Stables is team-oriented where safety and fun are high priorities, allowing children and teens a chance to grow physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.
Connie Patrick is passionate about horses, children and teens and relates well with them. She has over twenty years of riding, and during that time has competed and has participated in many riding clinics and lessons in jumping and dressage. With a lifetime experience of working with kids, including teaching and management in preschool and after-school programs, being a Sunday School teacher and director at a church, Connie was finally able to combine her love of horses and kids in becoming a riding instructor and mentor. For five years she and her husband, Mike, ran a small training barn in Oregon full of children and teens who rode and went to shows. Towards the end of the 5 years the program had outgrown the property it was on and prayer had begun as to how it could be expanded.
Well, the prayer was answered in a way not quite expected. Due to Mike's job, the Patricks moved to Wilmington, Ohio in 2005 and acquired over 18 acres with endless possibilities to develop a new training program/facility for kids and teens.
Stillwater Stables offers a leadership program for teens 14 and over who would like to learn what it takes to be a leader, be responsible, and to have opportunities to take on leadership roles at the stables. It is for teens who understand the magic of working with horses and are excited to teach others how to experience that.
