Don’t be Left Behind!

don't be left behindI won’t argue that they are the highest literary quality and I know some have issues with their pre-tribulation perspective of the rapture, but I was inspired by the Left Behind book series and have read them several times. I was struck by the regret of those who were left behind and their sense of urgency to tell others about Christ, since they all had only one more chance to get it right.

Whether you are pre-trib, post-trib or don’t have a clue what that even means, one thing is certain – you don’t want to be left behind! When Christ returns for His people, you want to be going with Him. Do you feel that urgency? If you’re already certain that you won’t be left behind, what about your friends, family, and neighbors? Do you have the same passion that the characters in the Left Behind series had for witnessing to all those around you, knowing that the time is short?

A few weeks ago I was at a horse show with my daughter, Julie. She was showing her horse, Kody, and I was showing my mule, Sassy. I had finished my first two classes and Julie would be showing soon. I took Sassy back to the trailer and tied her so I could watch Julie’s class. As I was walking back to the arena, I was horrified to see a large, dark animal running past me. She was frantic to get back to Kody and was heading right for him, at high speed, down a narrow path between the announcer’s booth and the show arena.

At first people were yelling, “Horse loose.” Then it became “Mule loose!” It was kind of like the parting of the Red Sea as people cleared out of her way. As soon as she reached Kody, she stopped. Someone grabbed her halter and I retrieved my wayward mule.

I didn’t think of it right away, (I was ready to sell the mule right then and there) but after I got over my annoyance with her, I began to consider Sassy’s concern about being “left behind” and her focused intensity on being with Kody. Are we that intent on making sure we are not left behind? Do we want to be with Christ as much as Sassy wanted to be with Kody?
